Assessment Policy

At Footsteps we consider the individual needs, interests and stage of development of each child and we use this information to provide enjoyable and challenging experiences in all seven areas of learning and development, all tailored to individual needs of each child.

We aim to provide safe, stimulating and secure environment for all children attending our setting. This is implemented through planning and assessment of children’s progress. Assessment plays an important role in helping both parents and practitioners to recognise children’s progress, understand their needs, and to plan activities and support…

Progress check at age of two

We review each child’s progress when they are aged between two and three, in the form of a short-written summary of child’s development in the prime areas. This is then shared with parents or carers who are encouraged to share the information with other relevant professionals. Written summary should identify: children’s strengths, and any areas where the child’s progress is less than expected. A meeting with parents will be arranged to discuss how the summary of development can be used to support learning at home.

Individual progress tracker

Tracking demonstrates progress in the EYFS, identifies on-entry baseline data and is reviewed 3 further times a year. These judgements are based on the skills, knowledge, understanding and behaviour that the child demonstrates consistently and independently. They show the ‘best fit’ stage of development for the individual child using the information from observations.
